Hi, I'm Mandi.
I've lived in the Portland metro area for most of my life, officially taking up residence in the advertising realm in ‘07—back before iPhones lived perilously in our pockets and Facebook et. al merged into everyday vernacular.
From time in marketing departments to advertising houses and then “just the house-s,” I’ve had a head and a hand in a constellation of digital experiences and print campaigns: Levi’s, Microsoft, Park City Mountain Resort, Fred Meyer Jewelers, Perkins & Co, and most recently, Barrow Neurological Institute and Everytown for Gun Safety.
Fifteen years and a few personal renaissances later, the one thing that hasn’t changed is my ability to seek out fulfilling client - copywriter pairings through work ethic and word-of-mouth; a truth I hope speaks to my integrity, authenticity and impeccable ability to meet a deadline.
Eleven Things
1: A new or unexpected word can feel like a salve to me. Bonus points if it’s got good mouthfeel or an evocative grip, like “komorebi.”
2: Despite my initial reluctance, my kids made me into a Swiftie last summer. I prefer not to talk about it (unless your love for evermore runs as deep as mine).
3: My husband and better half is our family’s seamster, green thumb and all-around troubleshooter. Pfft, gender norms.
4: I have yet to meet a nonfiction book I don’t vibe with, and if you identify as a memoir? I will be talking about you to my closest friends.
5: It’s true that winter and early spring in Portland, Ore. just might break you. It’s also true that the first fistful of sunny, blue-skied days can heal you right up.
6: I wouldn’t be a real writer if I didn’t also get googly-eyed over poetry. Je t’adore Maggie Smith, Mary Oliver and ALOK, amongst others.
7: There was a time I couldn’t picture having kids, then it became “Well, maybe just one.” And then the second showed up, I temporarily wished for a third and ended up with a baby-sized dog instead.
8: Guilty pleasures include fine reality programming, like “Bachelor in Paradise,” a few good cult-based documentaries, hearty scones and an earthy green tea.
9: Women in midlife are the same women who will change the world … If we can find the energy in between everything else we’re managing.
10: Audio books don’t lure me in, but podcasts are a full-body yes. Tried-and-trues include The Daily, WCDHT and anything by Lemonada Media.
11: I’ve volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children and teens in the foster care system since 2019. This year marks my third case with CASA for Children in Washington County.
